  • Barcelo Bavaro Beach prides itself on delivering a world class vacation experience, and is exclusively adults only. A 30-minute drive from the well-serviced Punta Cana International airport, this highly acclaimed resort offers a fantastic place to accommodate your groups golf vacation. An abundance of restaurants and bars, the U Spa, water sports and boat trips make the Barcelo Bavaro Beach a mouth-watering prospect.

Golf here does not disappoint either, with The Lakes Barcelo Golf Course, located next to the hotel. The course was completely remodelled in 2010 by P.B. Dye and is the newest addition to the collection of golf in the Dominican Republic. The second course on the package is the impressive, Corales Golf Club. The Tom Fazio designed Corales is an 18-hole par 72 Championship golf course set between rocky cliffs, coral reefs and the expansive Caribbean Sea. The 7,650 yard course features a private Oscar de La Renta-designed clubhouse and six ocean-front holes providing a massive backdrop for Fazio’s world-class design. La Cana with 14 of its 27 holes with spectacular ocean views has been compared to Pebble Beach by Golf Magazine, who also declared it the ‘number one course in the Caribbean’.

  • Flights
Flights are frequent and direct from many major US hubs to the Dominican Republic.  For the golfing regions in the east, Punta Cana Int. (PUJ) and La Romana Int. (LRM) are the best options.

    Timings
Due to its easterly location the Dominican Republic falls into AST time zone - one hour ahead of EST.

    Language
Spanish is the most common language throughout the Dominican Republic however, English is widely used particularly within resorts and the golf courses.

    Currency
The Dominican Peso (DOP, or RD$) is the national currency, with the US Dollar, Canadian Dollar and euros widely accepted in the majority of resorts, bars, restaurants and courses.

    Access
US & Canadian citizens can travel to the Dominican Republic on their own country’s passports.  The passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months prior to entry and a tourist card is required which can be purchased for US$10 on arrival at the airport.  Tourist cards are valid for 30 days.  There is also a departure tax of US$20.  Scheduled airlines sometimes include this charge in the price of the ticket and it is worth checking this pre-travel.

    The Weather
The temperature in the Dominican Republic is hot throughout the year. Winter highs range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius and summer moves between 30 and 32 degrees. The winters are typically dry with rain more likely through the summer and autumn. However, the rain will occur in brief showers or thunderstorms that pass quickly and certainly won't interrupt a day's play. For the avid golfer who is looking to play 36 holes in one day, August has the longest daylight hours.

The Golf - Caddies and Carts
The carts are the norm at 90% of the courses in the Dominican Republic and are generally included as part of the green fee. Caddies can usually be pre-booked given plenty of notice. Often the caddie cost is included in the green fee however, the gratuity is not. Please ask your sales agent for details when booking your vacation.

    The Golf - Practice Facilities
The majority of resorts in the Dominican Republic feature world-class practice facilities, similar to those available in the US. Take advantage of these amazing facilities before you head out onto the course to ensure you're on top of your game plus, they are usually included in your greens fee.

The Golf - Halfway Houses and Beverage Carts
Halfway houses are a main feature at the majority of resorts and courses, serving up hot/cold food, light snacks and refreshments. Beverage carts are also common circling the course. At some of our all-inclusive resorts the on-course food and drink is all part of the package - please ask for details when booking your vacation.

    The Golf - Handicap Restrictions
Many of the golf courses have handicap restrictions for visiting golfers and may require to see official proof of your handicap. The primary reason for this is to ensure only seasoned golfers visit these courses and don't hold up play.
